WE TEACH YOU TO TRAIN YOUR DOG!

Trick Dog and CGC Exams

MADOC offers the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exams after a fun 8-week training course for dogs and their owners. These worthwhile classes are offered approximately every quarter, providing participants with several opportunities to refine their skills. As soon as dates and times for the next sessions are confirmed, we’ll update our home page. We will post details about the CGC exams right away.

We invite graduates of our Obedience Beginner Class to take the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exam for free! It’s a great chance for you and your dog to show your progress. All dog owners can join, even without prior class attendance. Please bring proof of your dog’s current vaccinations for safety. Non-MADOC students can test for a small fee of $10.

We examine if the dog can do the next:
     • Allow their owner or handler to meet another person without interfering or becoming unruly
     • Meet a friendly stranger without jumping and without a hostile or fearful reaction
     • Allow a stranger to pet and brush the dog and examine the paws
     • Walk on a loose leash with the owner or handler maintaining heel position
     • Walk on a leash through a crowd walking nearby
     • Stay seated in a place while the owner walks away
     • Come to the owner when called
     • Stay under control in the face of some startling loud noises and unusual objects moving nearby
     • Stay under the control of a stranger while the owner is out of sight

Dogs may excel in the examination after completing the Beginner Class, underscoring the program’s effectiveness in equipping them with essential training skills. For details on test dates and times, check the Future Calendar Page. We follow the American Kennel Club (AKC) guidelines for Canine Good Citizen (CGC) exams. You can learn more about the CGC requirements and program on the AKC’s CGC page. During the CGC test, we also offer the AKC Trick Dog title testing.

**What is Trick Dog? **

The AKC Trick Dog Program is a favorite among AKC training options, offering fun for both dogs and their handlers. At MADOC, our instructors will guide you in a classroom setting on how to teach your dog entertaining tricks. The program starts with easy novice tasks. These include getting your dog to step into a box on cue. It then moves up to more advanced tricks. These tricks link several actions into one exciting routine. To earn the Trick Dog Novice title, your dog must finish 10 skills from the official list. If dogs have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title with the AKC, they can earn a Trick Dog Title by performing five extra tricks. They need to do five more tricks. (CGC + 5).
